About the Location: Although Jerusalem is a major city filled with light, one can find relatively quiet and dark areas suitable for sky observations. Generally, we recommend locations on the outskirts of the city—places where the city lights recede, such as the mountain ridges south of the city. The crisp mountain air enhances the viewing experience and allows for a clearer observation of celestial objects.
Sky Conditions in Jerusalem: Due to the city’s size and surrounding light sources, the sky conditions are not as ideal as in desert locations. However, atop high ridges like Mount Herzl or Ein Karem, we can enjoy surprisingly good viewing conditions compared to central Israel. Despite a Bortle rating of 4–5, the skies in these locations still provide a unique and rewarding observation experience for visitors to the city.
