The Center of Israel, despite its bustling city lights, holds unique astronomical hubs and advanced observatories that allow you and your family to get up close with the universe, with a focus on an engaging educational experience. This is your chance to discover bright planets, lunar craters, and the infinite cosmos—all within a short drive from home. Join us for a guided night experience where we reveal the secrets of the sky in the most accessible and organized locations in the Central region, specially adapted for the urban lifestyle.
About the Location
Our activities in Central Israel focus on regulated sites or field spots with the lowest possible light pollution in the Central Shephelah (Lowlands). We can meet at urban observatories or, alternatively, reach observation points outside the major cities—such as hills in the Shephelah region or sites near Beit Shemesh and Kiryat Gat—which provide the optimal viewing conditions available in the center.
These locations are carefully selected not only for their sky conditions but also for high accessibility, ensuring you enjoy a complete astronomical experience without wasting precious time on the road. Nearby, you can find plenty of lodging and entertainment options to complement your visit.
Sky Conditions in Central Israel
The Center is characterized by high light pollution, which makes observing faint objects challenging. However, our observations focus on astronomical bodies that “win” against the city lights:
- Light Pollution Rating: Typically Bortle 7 or higher (typical urban skies).
- What We Will See: Using powerful professional telescopes, we focus on the brightest objects:
- The Moon: Breathtaking views of craters, mountains, and lunar landscapes.
- Planets: Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn (when available for observation).
- Stars: Double stars and bright star clusters.
- Constellations: An introduction to the major constellations using a professional laser pointer.
